When delivered with skill, kindness and care, a visit to the dentist can be a fun and rewarding experience for children of all ages.

Regular trips to the dentist are essential for children as they have weaker enamel than adults, meaning decay can spread quickly. We like to see our child patients at least three times a year. Dental x-rays are also important to make sure that teeth are progressing and moving properly.

Your child should get into the habit of brushing his or her teeth twice a day. You can brush your child's teeth when they are young, but it is a good idea to teach them to do it themselves around the age of seven. It is important that there is fluoride in your child's toothpaste, but not too much - be sure to check with the dentist about how much fluoride you are using.

The dentist will also speak to you about your child's diet. The amount of sugar and acid should be limited, particularly between meals or before bedtime. This includes not just sweets but also hidden sugars, such as the ones in breakfast cereals.

A fissure sealant is a thin, plastic coating that is applied to the pits on the surfaces of back teeth in order to prevent food and bacteria from becoming trapped and causing decay. They are safe, effective and painless. We reccomened that our child patients have fissure sealants carried out as soon as their adult teeth come through; these can be carried out by our Dental Therapist.

We believe children should be aware and understand as much as they can about the importance of all the above preventitive steps. This will ensure that they continue to maintain these good habits as they progress through life, appreciating the importance of dental health.

Our Christmas Opening Hours

The Practice will be unable to provide dental treatment as both Dr Chen and Dr Saul-Harrah will be away. However, there will be staff in attendance to help with any emergencies and if necessary, to refer to our partner dental practice in Hatfield. The times are:

Monday 24th  -  9.00am to 12.00pm

Thursday 27th  -  9.00am to 12.00pm

Friday 28th  -  CLOSED

Monday 31st  -  9.00am to 12.00pm
